TYLER, Texas — An East Texas child has been identified as the individual responsible for making numerous bomb threats and swatting hoaxes across multiple states and locations, including Brookshire’s grocery stores in Tyler. The Colin County Sheriff’s Office, along with Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI, executed a search warrant in Smith County, leading to the identification of the juvenile suspect.

The investigation, which began in May, revealed that the suspect initiated a swatting incident at a home in St. Paul, Texas. Subsequent warrants linked the suspect to bomb threats at various locations, including Brookshire’s grocery stores, schools in the Tyler area, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and Mission ISD. Charges against the juvenile are currently pending.

Following the bomb threats at Brookshire’s locations on Rice Rd. and 5th St., Tyler Police spokesperson Andy Erbaugh confirmed that no evidence was found during the search. It was later discovered that the suspect’s activities extended beyond Texas to states such as Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, with a total of 100 locations targeted by the hoaxes.

Despite the suspect’s efforts to remain hidden, law enforcement agencies were able to uncover their identity through diligent online investigative work. Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner emphasized the dangers posed by swatting and bomb threats, highlighting the significant increase in such incidents and the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing these threats to public safety.

“Swatting hoaxes and bomb threats are serious matters that potentially endanger innocent civilians. We remain committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these dangerous activities,” Sheriff Skinner stated.
