A man from Westbrook sustained severe injuries in a rollover crash and subsequent vehicle fire that occurred late on Sunday night in Standish, Maine.
According to reports from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers at the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received a call around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday regarding a single-vehicle crash. The vehicle had rolled over and caught fire, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.
Emergency officials were informed en route to the crash site that an individual was believed to be trapped inside the burning vehicle and unable to extricate themselves. Upon arrival, first responders managed to extract the man, identified as 32-year-old Andrew Leeman, from the vehicle after stabilizing it. Leeman was subsequently transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries that were fortunately not life-threatening.
Preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts indicate that Leeman was travelling at a high speed when he attempted to overtake another vehicle on a sharp turn. However, he lost control, veered off the road, and collided with two large rocks. The impact displaced the rocks, causing the vehicle to overturn and trap Leeman inside before catching fire.

Authorities have stated that speed and alcohol are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash, and charges are anticipated pending the conclusion of the investigation. The Standish Fire Department provided assistance to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office during the response to the incident.
