MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Yellowhammer State has a new reigning beauty queen! Abbie Stockard, representing Miss Hoover, was recently crowned as Miss Alabama at the prestigious Wright Center on the campus of Samford University in a dazzling ceremony.
The handover of the coveted crown was a momentous occasion as Mobile native Brianna Burrell, Miss Alabama 2023, passed on the title to Stockard. Burrell, the third black woman to hold the title in Alabama’s history, dedicated her reign to promoting her community service initiative, ‘Save-A-Stem’, which aims to inspire minority students and those in underprivileged schools to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Abbie Stockard, the newly crowned Miss Alabama, is a 21-year-old nursing student at Auburn University hailing from Vestavia Hills. With aspirations to become a pediatric nurse practitioner, Stockard is passionate about raising awareness for cystic fibrosis through her community service efforts.
The intense three-day competition saw 39 contestants competing in categories such as talent, evening gown, interview, and health and fitness. Emma Terry, representing Miss Jefferson County, clinched the first runner-up position, while Maddi Heath (Miss Jubilee) secured the second runner-up spot. Marissa Luna (Miss University of Alabama) was named third runner-up, and Hannah Adams (Miss Mobile Bay) took home the fourth runner-up title.
As the new face of Alabama, Abbie Stockard’s responsibilities begin immediately. She will spend the upcoming year representing the state as an ambassador and will also compete in the Miss America pageant. In addition to the prestige of the title, Stockard also received a $15,000 cash scholarship.
