HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Following a controversial incident at the Alohilani Hotel where a woman confronted a group of drag queens, the hotel is now showing their support by hosting a drag brunch event.
Scheduled to take place at 10:30 on Sunday morning, the drag brunch aims to celebrate diversity and inclusivity within the community.
The incident that sparked outrage involved a California woman, who was later identified as a college professor, berating Marina Del Ray, a local drag queen, in a viral video that circulated online.
Police were called to intervene, and the woman was escorted back to her room after causing a disturbance at the hotel.
Mark Imaizumi, who was in character as Marina del Rey during the altercation, expressed empathy towards the woman’s actions, acknowledging the challenges of acceptance and understanding in today’s society.
In response to the incident, the Honolulu Police Department issued a trespass warning to the woman and she was promptly removed from the property. The Alohilani Hotel also refunded her hotel charges as a gesture of goodwill.
