Powell, originally from Moreno Valley, California, was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played one season for the Saints in 2014, appearing in 14 games and recording two tackles.

Prior to his time in the NFL, Powell was a standout player for the University of Florida. He was the top-ranked recruit in Florida Gators football history, joining the program as part of former head coach Urban Meyer’s 2010 recruiting class. Standing tall at 6-foot-3 and weighing 237 pounds, Powell played in 35 games across three seasons for the Gators, accumulating 79 tackles, 18.5 tackles-for-loss, and 11 sacks. Following his junior season, he declared for the 2014 NFL Draft.

In addition to his stint with the Saints, Powell also signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad in 2015 and the Chicago Bears’ practice squad in 2016. He later joined the Seattle Seahawks in November 2016 and was on the team’s roster for the 2017 season, although he did not appear in any games.
