Lynne Marta, a talented actress and singer known for her roles in films such as the 1972 Clint Eastwood western “Joe Kidd” and 1984’s “Footloose,” has sadly passed away at the age of 78. She had been battling cancer and succumbed to the disease on January 11, 2024. The news was shared by her dear friend Joan Sobel on Facebook, who described Marta as a beautiful light that we lost. Sobel also praised Marta’s incredible talent as an actress and singer, noting that her voice was like that of an angel. Marta was not only loved by her human friends but also adored her furry companions.

The passing of Lynne Marta comes just days after the death of her former boyfriend, David Soul, who was best known for his role in the popular TV show “Starsky & Hutch.” Marta and Soul had a close relationship and lived together for several years. They even collaborated on a song called “Black Bean Soup,” which was featured as the B-side to Soul’s hit single “Don’t Give Up on Us” in 1977. Additionally, Marta appeared alongside Soul in his 1997 TV special “David Soul and Friends.”

Throughout her career, Marta made numerous guest appearances on various TV shows in the 1970s, including “The Mod Squad,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Vega$,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” and “Barnaby Jones.” In 1983, she took on the role of Charlene Higgins in 22 episodes of the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.” On the big screen, she portrayed the character Elma in the Clint Eastwood film “Joe Kidd.” Marta also played Lulu Warnicker, the aunt of Kevin Bacon’s character, in the 1984 movie “Footloose.” Her talent was also showcased in the 1990 film “Three Men and a Little Lady,” where she played a teacher.

In addition to her acting career, Lynne Marta was involved in a tragic incident that shook Hollywood in 1989. She was a witness in the murder case of Rebecca Schaeffer, a rising star known for her role in the TV series “My Sister Sam.” Schaeffer was killed by an obsessed fan named Robert John Bardo. Marta and Schaeffer lived in the same building in West Hollywood’s Fairfax District. Marta testified at the preliminary hearing, recounting the horrifying moments when she heard gunshots and the screams of her neighbor. The memory of that day and the smell of gunfire remained with her forever.

Born on October 31, 1948, in Somerville, New Jersey, Lynne Marta began her acting career with guest roles on popular TV shows like “Gidget” and “The Monkees” in 1966. She was married to fellow TV actor Brick Huston until his death in 2018. Marta’s final credited project was an episode of NBC’s TV series “American Dreams” in 2002, which was set in the 1960s.
