Haruo Takahashi Obituary – Cause of Death News : “Manga Industry Mourns Loss: Celebrated Animator Passes Away”

Japanese Manga creator and animator, Haruo Takahashi, has passed away at the age of 76. The news of his death was reported by the Japanese news agency Kyodo News on January 12. Unfortunately, the cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Takahashi was born on March 30, 1947, in Hachioji city in Tokyo. He began his career as an animator, drawing storyboards for the first Tensai Bakabon series and the first Lupin the 3rd television anime in 1971. He also played a key role as an assistant animator for the 1978 anime film Ringing Bell (Chirin no Suzu).

In addition to his work as an animator, Takahashi made a name for himself as a manga artist. He gained popularity with his gag manga that incorporated current events. One of his notable works, Iwayuru Hitotsu no Chō-san Shugi, was serialized in Bungeishunjū’s Weekly Bunshun magazine. This manga won the Bungeishunjū Manga Award in 1984 and continued for 27 years until Takahashi decided to end it in 2010.
