Tragic Demise of Namibian Cheetah at Kuno National Park
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a cheetah from Namibia has passed away at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur. This unfortunate incident marks the 10th cheetah death at KNP, leaving the park with 13 adult cheetahs and four cubs.
The seven-year-old cheetah named ‘Shaurya’ was discovered unconscious in a predator-free enclosure on Tuesday. Tragically, despite efforts to revive him, he passed away at approximately 3 PM, as confirmed by Aseem Shrivastava, the principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife).

Shrivastava shared, “Our monitoring team noticed that the cheetah was motionless in its location. Upon approaching, they found it in an unconscious state. The team administered tranquilizers and performed CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). Although Shaurya regained consciousness for a brief period, his condition continued to deteriorate, and he eventually succumbed at 3 PM.”
The exact cause of Shaurya’s untimely demise will be determined once the post-mortem report is available. As we await further information, it is important to note that eight cheetahs were brought from Namibia in September 2022, followed by an additional 12 cheetahs from South Africa in February 2023.
Shaurya, along with his companion Gaurav, came to Kuno National Park as a coalition from Namibia. These two cheetahs were inseparable, sharing their lives and hunting together.
