Tributes from content creators have been pouring in on social media after news shook the close-knit digital culinary community of the death of TikTok star Lynn “Lynja” Yamada Davis.
The late social media star, best known for her quirky and fun cooking tutorials, died on New Year’s Day at Riverview Medical Center in New Jersey. The cause of death was esophageal cancer, as confirmed by her eldest daughter Hannah Shofet.

A Beloved Internet Personality
Lynn Davis, also known as Lynja, had a significant presence on various social media platforms. With nearly 10 million subscribers on YouTube, over 17 million followers on TikTok, and 2.2 million followers on Instagram, her channel “Cooking With Lynja” was a warm and welcome addition to the sea of content in constantly evolving algorithms.
Her son Tim Davis shared a tribute video on his social media, confirming the news and showcasing memorable family photos that highlighted his mother’s amazing personality. The video has already garnered over 9 million views on TikTok and received an outpouring of over 63,000 comments.
One of the photos Tim shared gave his followers a glimpse into their family’s old kitchen from 1995, where Lynn helped him roll out dough while standing on a step stool. Tim remarked that it was a different experience compared to the food they created on “Cooking with Lynja.”

In the tribute, he highlighted their shared experiences, including setting a Guinness World Record for creating the largest donut and traveling together to Japan and Italy.

Lynn Davis, a third-generation Japanese American, launched her YouTube channel in 2020 alongside her son Tim. She quickly gained fame for sharing delicious recipes and useful cooking knowledge, all presented with her signature style filled with genius edits and corny jokes.
Her talent and impact were recognized by Forbes, as she was named one of the Top 50 Creators in 2022. Additionally, she received three consecutive Streamy Awards nominations, winning her first in 2022.
Remembering Lynn Davis
Lynn Davis is survived by her daughter Hannah Shofet, her husband Keith Davis, her daughter Becky Steinberg, her sons Tim Davis and Sean Davis, and her siblings Jay Yamada and Karen Yamada Dolce.
While her funeral has already taken place, the family has requested that fans who wish to pay tribute can donate to the Monmouth County SPCA or the food charity FulFill in her honor.
