MANCHESTER, N.H. – Autopsy results were released on Monday for Jake Chiaradonna, a 35-year-old man who was shot and killed by police last week in the Pine and Plummer streets area.

Background Information on the Incident

Jake Chiaradonna died several hours after being taken to the hospital following the shooting. According to the autopsy report, he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, confirming that his death was a homicide.

Authorities have kept the identity of the officer who fired the fatal shots confidential. The New Hampshire attorney general’s office has stated that the officer’s name will only be disclosed after a formal interview is conducted.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and officials are working to gather all the necessary evidence and statements.

The Events Leading to the Shooting

On the day of the incident, two patrol officers spotted Chiaradonna in a car in the area. He was wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred on January 11th.

A video captured by a witness shows Manchester police surrounding the vehicle on Plummer Street. Chiaradonna quickly fled from the car, running behind a gray house while SWAT officers pursued him. Moments later, gunshots rang out.

Chiaradonna refused to comply with the officers’ commands and began behaving erratically. Police initially used less-than-lethal force, attempting to subdue him without causing harm. However, he continued to resist arrest.

Authorities deployed a K-9 unit, named Duke, to assist in apprehending Chiaradonna. Unfortunately, Chiaradonna stabbed the dog with a screwdriver and managed to escape on foot. The K-9 unit, along with other officers, pursued him.

Chiaradonna later confronted the officers near the side of a building and assaulted Duke again. In response, an officer fired at Chiaradonna, striking him. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he passed away several hours later.

Police Chief’s Statement

“He’s a very dangerous individual, and again, I have full confidence in the actions of the Manchester police officers this morning,” said Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg.

The police department has emphasized the threat Chiaradonna posed to the officers and the public during the incident. They have expressed their support for the officers’ actions in responding to the situation.

Previous Criminal History

According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Concord, Chiaradonna was on supervised release after serving a federal prison sentence for bank robbery. He had pleaded guilty in 2017 to robbing two banks in Rochester, just six days apart in October 2016.

The details surrounding Chiaradonna’s prior criminal activities may shed light on his motivations and behavior during the encounter with the police.

Conclusion

The release of the autopsy results has provided some clarity regarding the cause of Chiaradonna’s death. However, many questions still remain unanswered as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Law enforcement officials are working diligently to gather all the facts and evidence required to determine the sequence of events and whether the officer’s use of force was justified.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their line of duty and highlights the importance of thorough investigations to ensure transparency and accountability.

Rest assured, we will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
