Tyka Nelson, Prince’s Only Full Sibling, Allegedly Passes Away at 64
Sadly, news has emerged that Tyka Nelson, the only full sibling of the legendary musician Prince, allegedly died recently at the age of 64. Her son, President Nelson, confirmed this heartbreaking news to the Associated Press. While the cause of her death has not yet been disclosed, her family is reportedly awaiting further information.
Born in 1960 to jazz musician John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw, Tyka carved out her own space in the music world. She released four albums, with her debut, “Royal Blue,” in 1988 featuring hits like “Marc Anthony’s Tune.” This album showcased her unique sound, a blend of adult contemporary and easy listening, which was quite different from her brother’s iconic Minneapolis sound.

Tyka often reflected on her close bond with Prince, stating, “I’ve been Prince’s sister ever since I got here on Earth.” This quote captures the essence of their relationship and her journey in the shadow of his immense fame. While she was often recognized as Prince’s sister, she managed to establish her own identity in the music scene, maintaining a career that resonated with love and romance.
She leaves behind two sons and five grandchildren. Her family has chosen to keep services private, asking that in lieu of flowers, people take care of one another. Just days before her passing, Tyka had expressed excitement about a farewell concert and hinted at new projects, including a mixtape and a memoir.
The music world continues to remember Prince, who tragically passed away in 2016, and now Tyka’s legacy as both an artist and a devoted sister will also be cherished.
