Tyka Nelson, Sister of Prince, Passes Away at 64
It’s being reported that Tyka Nelson, the only full sibling of the legendary musician Prince, has died at the age of 64. Her son, President Nelson, confirmed the sad news to The Associated Press, stating that she passed away at North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. As of now, the cause of death remains unknown, and President Nelson mentioned that details might take a few days to emerge.
Born in 1960 to jazz musician John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw, Tyka was not just known as Prince’s sister but also made a name for herself as a singer-songwriter. She released four albums throughout her career, with her debut album, “Royal Blue,” coming out in 1988. That album featured her notable hits “Marc Anthony’s Tune” and “L.O.V.E.,” which managed to make waves on the Billboard charts.

Tyka often described her music as a mature, romantic sound that resonated with listeners aged 25 to 45. In her own words, “The album is basically about love relationships between a man and a woman. I’m royal blue because I can’t find him,” capturing the essence of her artistry and personal struggles.
Interestingly, Tyka embraced her identity as Prince’s sister while carving out her own path in the music industry. She was dedicated to keeping her brother’s legacy alive, often participating in fan events and industry gatherings. Just a few days prior to her passing, she had plans to perform a farewell concert in Minneapolis, which illness sadly prevented her from attending.
Tyka leaves behind two sons and five grandchildren, and her family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
