Alleged Wrong-Way crash in Fort Wayne Claims Life of 77-Year-Old
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A 77-year-old Fort Wayne man has been identified as the person killed in a crash on U.S. 27 near Flatrock Road Wednesday night.

BACKGROUND: One dead, one injured following crash involving wrong-way driver in southeast Allen County Wednesday
Lawrence Oren Gillespie Sr. tragically became the 34th traffic fatality in Allen County for 2024. According to the Allen County Coroner’s Office, he died from multiple blunt force injuries, and authorities have ruled his death an accident.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported that Gillespie was driving northbound in a pickup truck on the southbound lanes of U.S. 27 when he collided with another pickup traveling south. Following this, a southbound semi-truck struck both vehicles.
The driver of the other pickup was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. As the investigation continues, officials from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Prosecutor’s Office, and Coroner’s Office are working together to get to the bottom of this incident.
