The Alleged Tragedy of Officer Evan Dunn: A Golden police Officer Struck by a Suspected DUI Driver
The Golden police officer who was struck and killed by a suspected DUI driver has been identified as Officer Evan Dunn. At just 33 years old, Dunn’s life was abruptly cut short during a routine investigation on Wednesday night.
Officer Dunn was part of a team examining a crash when tragedy struck just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Highway 58. While standing outside their patrol vehicle, Dunn and a fellow officer were hit by a car driven by Stephen Robert Geer. The collision resulted in Dunn being trapped beneath the vehicle, and he sadly died at the scene. His partner, Officer Bethany Grusing, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

Before joining the Golden Police Department, Dunn served as an Army Aviation Officer and Blackhawk pilot. He transitioned into law enforcement as a code enforcement officer, later entering the police academy. His dedication and service extended to being a captain in the Army National Guard.
Survived by his wife Annalise and their dog Remy, Dunn’s legacy extends beyond his service. According to Golden Police Chief Joe Harvey, Dunn was not just a colleague but family, destined for greatness within their close-knit community. Annalise described him as a loyal, observant man of faith who cherished the outdoors and shared a deep love for adventure with her.
Currently, Geer faces several serious charges, including vehicular homicide while allegedly under the influence. As this story develops, it serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement and the devastating consequences of impaired driving.
