KEARNEY CO. — In what has been reported as a tragic incident, a Kearney man has been identified as the passenger who lost his life in a two-vehicle accident that occurred on November 5. Authorities are still investigating the details surrounding this event.

According to the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services received multiple 911 calls at 10:18 a.m. about an accident involving serious injuries. The collision took place near the intersection of County Road 23 and County Road B, raising concerns about road safety in the area.

A southbound 2009 Ram pickup, driven by 34-year-old Duniesky Benitez Torres from Grand Island, reportedly collided with an eastbound 2008 Buick operated by 61-year-old Nurita Lambert of Axtell. Both drivers were rushed to CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries.

Tragically, Salvador D. Alvarado Reyes, a 35-year-old passenger in the Ram pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial reports indicate that seatbelts were not in use in the Ram, while the occupants of the Buick were wearing theirs. This raises important questions about seatbelt safety and compliance that might have changed the outcome.
