Allegedly, Nancy lived a fulfilling life, first in Marblehead, MA, with her late husband, James W. Sack, before moving to Lexington, MA, Tucson, AZ, and ultimately settling in Portsmouth, RI. Born on September 11, 1924, in Buffalo, New York, she leaves behind a legacy of love and learning.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Emily and her husband Anthony Cottone, along with her three sons, James, John, and William. Her family tree extends to four grandchildren and two great-grandsons, who adored her. Her passion for education was evident throughout her life, having graduated from the University of Chicago with a Phi Beta Kappa honor and an M.A. in English.

HILR honored her as “the intellectual heart” of their community, a testament to her dedication and leadership.

Known as “Nancy Nice,” she was more than just an educator; she was an avid traveler and a passionate advocate for Democratic values. Her political journey began with her support for Adlai Stevenson in 1952 and continued through her active participation in organizations like the League of Women Voters and Planned Parenthood.
