Allegedly, A Mother and Daughter killed by Wasps in Mundakkayam
It’s hard to believe that nature can turn so deadly. Allegedly, a 110-year-old woman named Kunjipennu and her 80-year-old daughter Thankamma lost their lives after being attacked by a swarm of wasps near Mundakkayam. They lived on the edge of a forest in Pakkanam, close to Punchavayal, where they likely enjoyed the beauty of their surroundings.
On a seemingly ordinary Tuesday afternoon, around 4 p.m., the pair was standing outside their home when the wasps struck. The chaos that ensued was unimaginable. Neighbors rushed them to the hospital, but, unfortunately, Kunjipennu passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, with Thankamma following just a few hours later. It’s heartbreaking to think about the fear and pain they must have felt during that time.

Two good Samaritans, 75-year-old Joy and 24-year-old Shivadarshan, tried to help the mother-daughter duo but ended up getting stung themselves. They are currently receiving treatment, which highlights how dangerous these wasp encounters can be.
Kunjipennu was a beloved figure in her community, being the eldest member of the Malayaraya community. Just last year, she received recognition from the Mundakkayam panchayat, which shows how valued she was in her neighborhood.
This tragic story reminds us of the unpredictability of nature and how crucial it is to exercise caution, especially in areas where wild animals and insects thrive. It’s a stark reminder to cherish our loved ones and be aware of our surroundings.
