Kiki Hakansson, the iconic first-ever winner of the Miss World beauty pageant, has reportedly passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully in her sleep on November 4 at her home in California, as stated by her family. They shared that she “went peacefully, comfortably, and well taken care of,” reflecting the warmth and love surrounding her in her final moments.

The somber announcement came via the official Miss World Instagram account on November 6. Kiki, a proud Swede, made history when she clinched the title during the inaugural Miss World pageant on July 29, 1951. The event, held at London’s Lyceum Ballroom, was initially intended as a one-time celebration tied to the Festival of Britain. Kiki’s victory marked the beginning of a global legacy that continues to thrive today.

Born on June 17, 1929, Kiki secured her place in history by winning the Miss Sweden World pageant in 1951. Interestingly, the contest was originally called the Festival Bikini Contest, aimed at promoting swimwear. Kiki remains the only titleholder to have been crowned in a bikini, a fun fact that adds to her unique legacy.

Her son, Chris Andersen, fondly remembered her as “real, kind, loving and fun,” highlighting her brilliant sense of humor and big heart. Julia Morley, chairperson of the Miss World Organization, extended her condolences, emphasizing Kiki’s pivotal role as a pioneer in beauty pageantry.
