Tyka Nelson, Sister of Music Icon Prince, Passes Away at 64
It’s a sad day for fans of music legend Prince as his sister, Tyka Nelson, has reportedly died at the age of 64. The news was shared by her cousin, Charles “Chazz” Smith, in a heartfelt social media post on November 4. He expressed the family’s sorrow, saying, “Our family is very saddened to share the news of my cousin Tyka Evene Nelson who passed away this morning.” Her son, President LenNard Laeil Nelson, later confirmed this painful news, although the cause of her death remains unknown.
Tyka Nelson, born to John L. Nelson and Mattie Shaw Nelson, was Prince’s only full sister. Like her brother, she pursued a career in music, releasing four albums, including “Royal Blue” and “Hustler.” She was deeply connected to Minnesota, where she was based and often performed. Just last year, Tyka was gearing up for a farewell concert at the Dakota, but unfortunately, she fell ill and couldn’t make it.
