It’s a heartbreaking situation that has caught the attention of many in Tucson. An 80-year-old woman named Guadalupe Garcia tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a car crash that occurred on Oct. 20. Reports indicate that she was attempting to make a left turn in her Ford Focus when she was struck by a Ford Escape driven by 22-year-old Huntre Blake Shepherd.
According to a news release from the Tucson police Department, this collision took place just after 12:30 p.m. while Garcia was turning from eastbound Broadway onto northbound Columbus Boulevard. She was immediately transported to Banner University Main, but sadly, she passed away from her injuries on Saturday, Nov. 2. Shepherd, on the other hand, was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries.
Interestingly, neither driver was found to be impaired at the time of the accident. However, Shepherd was arrested on Oct. 30 on suspicion of aggravated assault. With Garcia’s recent passing, the case is expected to be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office, which could potentially change the course of this investigation.
This incident raises questions about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers on the road. As communities come together to mourn Garcia’s loss, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of driving and the importance of being vigilant behind the wheel.
