Lightning Strikes During Peruvian Football Match: Allegations of Fatal Incident
A local football match in Huancayo, Peru, allegedly turned into a nightmare when lightning struck the field, resulting in the tragic death of a player and injuries to five others. According to reports by The Sun, the incident occurred during a game between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca. Just 22 minutes into the match, Bellavista was leading 2-0 when the referee decided to halt the game due to ominous thunder rumbling overhead. Unfortunately, before the players could reach safety, a bolt of lightning struck the field.
The player who lost his life was José Hugo de la Cruz Meza, a 39-year-old defender. Disturbing video footage shows him collapsing on the ground after being struck. Emergency responders rushed him to a hospital, but, sadly, he was pronounced dead soon after. Additionally, the team’s goalkeeper, Juan Chocca Llacta, aged 40, suffered severe burns and remains in critical condition.
