The famous resident of Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Sanctuary in Queensland, Australia, Cassius, has allegedly passed away. Measuring an astonishing 5.5 meters in length and weighing over a ton, he held the title of the largest crocodile in captivity, as claimed by the Guinness World Records.

Before his capture in 1984, Cassius was a notorious figure in the region, known for attacking boats and hunting cattle. During his remarkable 37 years at the sanctuary, he developed a unique bond with George Craig, the crocodile hunter who initially captured him. Toody Scott, George’s grandson and one of Cassius’s caretakers, shared a touching story: “My grandfather would sit with Cassius for hours. Even though he used a wheelchair in recent times, Cassius would come to him every time he saw him.” This heartwarming friendship highlights the deep connection that can exist between humans and animals.

However, Cassius’s health began to decline shortly after Craig, now 94 years old, moved into a nursing home. A routine health check on October 15 revealed no issues, but just days later, Cassius stopped eating and was found deceased in his enclosure. The sanctuary’s officials expressed their sorrow on social media, stating, “We will miss Cassius, who lived much longer than crocodiles in the wild. His love and memories will live on in our hearts.”
