Louisville crash Claims Infant’s Life, Mother Faces Serious Charges
In a heartbreaking incident in Louisville, Kentucky, an infant has tragically died following a fiery car crash, and his mother is now facing a barrage of serious charges. Authorities say an 18-year-old woman, identified as Lyillie Pena, was driving a Dodge Dart that rear-ended a Ford Escape, causing her car to catch fire. Witnesses described a chaotic scene where officers found Pena outside the burning vehicle, holding her critically injured 3-month-old son. Despite the swift response from first responders, the baby sadly succumbed to his injuries later that morning at Norton Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the Ford Escape reported that he was stopped at a red light when he noticed Pena’s car speeding towards him. After the crash, he recounted that Pena appeared aggressive and unsteady, with glossy eyes and the unmistakable smell of alcohol on her breath. Pena allegedly admitted to consuming 99-proof alcohol the night before and taking Adderall.
As a result of the crash, she has been charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated DUI, and criminal mischief. During her booking, police conducted a blood test, which reportedly revealed a blood alcohol content of .039. This incident has raised many questions about driving under the influence and the responsibilities of parents on the road.
