Alleged Fatal crash on Route 27 in Roselle

Late on Halloween night, a crash along Route 27 in Roselle reportedly claimed the life of a young woman, stirring concern and grief in the community. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of St. George and Chandler avenues. A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 27-year-old Joshua Pryor, allegedly struck a curb, veered through a fence line, and continued into an open lot before finally coming to a stop in a nearby Wawa parking lot.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Jayla Pryor from Linden, was a passenger in the vehicle. While her brother sustained only minor injuries, the crash has left a significant impact on their family and friends. Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw expressed his condolences, highlighting the community’s sorrow over this tragic loss.

In the aftermath, Route 27 was closed in both directions for several hours, causing disruptions to local traffic. It wasn’t until around 9 a.m. on Friday that the road was reopened, alongside the Wawa parking lot and gas pumps, which also faced temporary closures.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and Roselle police are actively seeking witnesses to piece together the events leading up to this heartbreaking incident.
