Tragic accident on I-95 Claims Life, Raises Concerns Over Safety

In a heartbreaking incident on Interstate 95, a man lost his life after reportedly crossing the median in his Ford Escape and colliding head-on with another vehicle. This tragic event, which occurred on a Wednesday night, has left many questioning the safety measures in place on this busy highway. According to New Hampshire State police, this was the second fatal crash and the third serious accident involving vehicles crossing the median on I-95 this month.

The driver of the Ford Escape, identified as 68-year-old Arlen Brown from Sabattus, Maine, was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Jessica Emerson, the 25-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry struck in the incident, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. It’s a somber reminder of how quickly life can change on the road.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Brown’s vehicle became airborne while crossing the median, leading to the tragic collision. State Police shared on social media that the crash occurred near mile marker 13, prompting a shutdown of the northbound lanes for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate.

With nearly 100 fatalities on New Hampshire’s roads this year alone, discussions surrounding the potential installation of median barriers on I-95 are gaining traction. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation is currently evaluating this option, although no concrete plans or cost estimates have been finalized yet.

The recent spate of accidents, including a previous incident where two people lost their lives and another where two were seriously injured, has raised alarms about the safety of I-95. As we continue to navigate these troubling times on our roads, it’s essential for drivers to remain vigilant and prioritize safety for themselves and others.
