Alleged Carjacker shot by Troopers After I-95 Chase
The recent incident on Interstate 95 has stirred up a lot of conversations online. According to reports, a suspected carjacker, identified as Andy Ernesto Espinoza Garay, 26, was shot and killed by Virginia State police troopers following a high-speed chase on a Wednesday night. The pursuit kicked off around 10:15 PM when a trooper spotted a vehicle linked to a carjacking reported by U.S. Park Police.
As the chase unfolded, the driver refused to pull over, leading to a chaotic scene southbound near mile marker 158. At one point, the suspect’s vehicle collided with a trooper’s cruiser, causing it to overturn. Thankfully, the trooper emerged unscathed. The chase ended near the 150 mile marker, where officers managed to force the suspect’s vehicle to a stop.

Eyewitness accounts have been flooding social media, with some people sharing their close calls with the fleeing vehicle. One Facebook user mentioned, “That car flew right past me when I was sitting in traffic!” highlighting the danger of the situation. The driver, who was wearing a ski mask, allegedly made sudden movements that prompted the troopers to use their weapons. Sadly, Garay was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger, Merlin Alexander Cruz-Perdomo, 21, was airlifted to a local hospital and charged with grand larceny.
This incident has not only raised questions about police procedures but also about public safety on busy highways. The four troopers involved are currently on administrative leave while an investigation is underway, with all evidence set to be reviewed by the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
