Manitoba RCMP Investigating the Alleged Homicide of Infant Xavia Butler
The Manitoba RCMP are seeking public assistance in the unsettling case surrounding the remains of an infant identified as Xavia Skye Lynn Butler. Discovered in June on a property near Highway 6 in the RM of Grahamdale, police initially believed the remains belonged to an infant. Now, they’ve confirmed that Xavia was only between one and two years old when she allegedly died.
Investigators reported that her remains were located in a barn on the property, leading them to treat her death as a homicide. There were no missing person reports filed, and police are working hard to piece together the timeline of her short life. They particularly hope to find photos of Xavia taken after March 2022, as these could help establish crucial details about her last moments. Cpl. Jill Slobodzian emphasized the importance of these photographs, stating, “We also ask anyone who physically saw Xavia after March 2022 to reach out to us.”

The community of Pinaymootang First Nation, where Xavia’s family lived, is deeply affected by this tragedy. Chief Kurvis Anderson expressed the collective grief, saying, “The community is hurt.” He highlighted the need for answers for both the family and the community, as no one is clear on what transpired between when she was last seen and when her remains were found.
In a poignant gesture, the barn where Xavia was found has been transformed into a memorial, painted orange with the phrase “Every Child Matters.” Owner Natascha Kitchur described the barn as a tribute not just to Xavia but also as a call for awareness regarding systemic issues affecting families in the community.
If you have any information or photos that could assist in this investigation, the RCMP urges you to come forward.
