Remembering Susan Dwyer Wallace: A Life Filled with Love and Service
It is claimed that Susan Dwyer Wallace, who passed away at the age of 83 on October 29, 2024, was a pillar of her community in Newport. Born to Timothy J. Dwyer and Hellen K. (Kelly) Dwyer, Susan leaves behind a rich legacy of compassion and dedication. She is survived by her loving husband, Finton Wallace II, her son James, and her cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Finton.
Family meant everything to Susan. She was also surrounded by her siblings, including Lizbeth, Mary Ellen, David, Peter, and Charles, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her. Sadly, she was predeceased by several family members, including her brothers John and Timothy, and her sister Patricia.

Education was a crucial part of Susan’s life. She graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy and earned her BA from Elms College. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to John Jay College of Criminal Justice and later to Salve Regina University, where she received her MSW. Susan’s academic achievements laid the groundwork for her impactful career.
After working as a counselor at The New York Foundling Hospital and as a Youth Parole Officer, Susan returned to Rhode Island, where she founded Caritas, Inc. Under her leadership, this organization transformed the lives of countless individuals struggling with substance abuse. Her commitment to helping female and male adolescents, as well as adult women, was nothing short of inspiring.
Her funeral service will take place at St. Joseph’s Church on November 7, 2024.
