Accident – Death – Obituary News : :
Daniel, who was wounded in France in 1918, was trying to make his way from Detroit to Tulsa when he died during the massacre. His remains were exhumed in 2020 as part of a city effort to find and identify victims of the violence.

“C.L. Daniel’s story is an example of the many families that were impacted by the events of late May and early June 1921,” Bynum said. “Our work continues to identify additional victims and we are working to determine the next steps in our efforts to honor the victims and survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre.”

Daniel was wounded in the chest and arm during World War I, according to research by former state Rep. Don Ross and others. He was found in a makeshift grave in the city, along with another man who has not been identified.

Daniel was buried with others in a mass grave at Oaklawn Cemetery, where the city reinterred his remains during a small ceremony last week.
