ASIDE FROM WHAT THEY DID IN THE HOURS AFTER THE SHOOTING DURING A NEWS CONFERENCE. THAT MEANS QUESTIONS ARE MOUNTING, QUESTIONS THAT ARE ALSO TIED TO A LEGAL CASE THAT UNFOLDED HERE BEHIND ME AT THE COURTHOUSE IN KENTON COUNTY. FEELINGS OF GRIEF AND EXASPERATION CONTINUE TO RADIATE FROM THIS MURDER SCENE ON RIDGECREST DRIVE IN FLORENCE, POLICE SAY EARLY ON SATURDAY, CHASE GARVEY SHOWED UP AT A 21ST BIRTHDAY PARTY AND OPENED FIRE, KILLING MELISSA PARROTT, SHANE MILLER, HAYDEN REBECCHI AND DELANEY ERIE. NEWS OF WHAT HAPPENED RATTLED JOHN SCHICKEL, A SENATOR FROM BOONE COUNTY AND A FORMER FLORENCE POLICE OFFICER. WELL, IT REALLY WAS TODD, BECAUSE NOT ONLY WAS I ON THE FLORENCE POLICE, BUT IT WAS RIGHT UP THE STREET. AND SO IT WAS JUST A HORRIBLE THING. SCHICKEL SAID. HE TALKED TO FLORENCE’S MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF YESTERDAY, KNOWING PEOPLE HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS, INCLUDING WHY GARVEY HAD A GUN SINCE HE WAS A CONVICTED FELON. AND THEY ARE INVESTIGATING HOW AND WHERE THAT GUN CAME FROM. AND I THINK THAT WILL BE RESOLVED. THE CASE THAT SHOULD HAVE KEPT A FIREARM OUT OF GARVEY’S HANDS BEGAN IN FORT MITCHELL. THIS VIDEO SHOWS THE 21 YEAR OLD, WHO TOOK HIS OWN LIFE AFTER SATURDAY’S MASS SHOOTING, TALKING TO FORT MITCHELL DETECTIVES AFTER HE WAS ARRESTED ON A RAPE CHARGE INVOLVING A MINOR THREE YEARS AGO. GARVEY PLEADED GUILTY TO A LESSER CRIME BUT WALKED AWAY A CONVICTED FELON, MEANING HE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD A GUN. THEN LAST SUMMER, FLORENCE POLICE ARRESTED GARVEY FOR DOING DONUTS WITH HIS CAR IN THE PARKING LOT OF DAVE AND BUSTERS, THE PROBATION VIOLATION COULD HAVE TAKEN GARVEY OFF THE STREETS FOR A LONG WHILE. A JUDGE DECIDED 30 DAYS IN JAIL WAS ENOUGH. I’M NOT SAYING IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE THAT THEY MADE THE WRONG DECISION, BUT WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT WE ARE GOING DOWN A PATH OF NOT SENDING PEOPLE TO PRISON WHO MESS UP ONCE THEY’RE LET OUT ON THE HONOR SYSTEM. NOW THAT KENTON COUNTY COMMONWEALTH’S ATTORNEY ROB SANDERS TO COMMENT ON WHY THE RAPE CHARGE AGAINST CHASE GARVEY WAS REDUCED, SANDERS HAS DECLINED TO GET IN FRONT OF OUR CAMERA.
