LONG BEACH – A 64-year-old man was taken into custody on Wednesday for allegedly shooting his neighbor to death in Long Beach, a bustling coastal city located in Southern California.

Authorities were alerted to the incident in the 700 block of East First Street, situated near Alamitos Avenue, at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday after reports of gunfire were received by the Long Beach Police Department. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. They immediately administered life-saving measures until paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived, but tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Upon conducting an initial investigation, it was revealed that the suspect and the victim were next-door neighbors. However, the authorities did not disclose any potential motives that may have led to the fatal shooting.
The suspect, identified as John Higginbotham of Long Beach, was taken into custody and booked into the Long Beach city jail on suspicion of murder. His bail was set at $2 million, according to the police.
