A 36-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man in December 2023 in Winnipeg. The victim, identified as Brooklyn Elijah Hiebert, was found deceased outside a residence on Flora Avenue. Investigators determined that Hiebert was the victim of a homicide after being assaulted on Selkirk Avenue and then abandoned on Flora Avenue. Christopher Kyle Wattman, 36, was arrested on July 7, 2024, and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hiebert’s death. In a quiet neighbourhood in Winnipeg, a tragic incident unfolded on December 30, 2023. The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of suspicious circumstances in the 200 block of Flora Avenue. Little did they know, they would soon be faced with a homicide investigation.
The Victim
The victim, 20-year-old Brooklyn Elijah Hiebert, was found lifeless outside in the cold winter air. Hiebert, a resident of Winnipeg, had fallen victim to a brutal assault in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue. His injuries proved to be fatal, and he was then transported and abandoned in the 200 block of Flora Avenue.
The Suspect
After months of investigation, the authorities made a breakthrough in the case. On July 7, 2024, Christopher Kyle Wattman, a 36-year-old man, was apprehended in the 900 block of Aberdeen Avenue. Wattman was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hiebert’s death and is currently being held in custody.
