The incident occurred while the group was returning home from a party at a mountain resort in Barangay Lower Natimao-an. The vehicle was caught in a strong current caused by heavy rainfall, but luckily, it became lodged on a large rock in the middle of the river. CEBU CITY — A heartbreaking incident occurred in Carmen town, northern Cebu, where an 11-year-old girl lost her life and six others are still missing after the pickup truck they were travelling in was swept away by a flash flood on Monday afternoon, July 8.

Party Turns Tragic

The group had been enjoying a party at a mountain resort in Barangay Lower Natimao-an, Carmen, and were on their way back home when tragedy struck. The incident took place at 5:45 p.m. amidst heavy rainfall, causing a culvert to overflow and sweep the vehicle into the river.

Search and Rescue Operation Underway

Engr. Rodger Suico reported that most of the survivors were seated inside the vehicle, while the fatality was among those at the back. The body of the young girl, Arshane Bejoc, was discovered on the shoreline in Barangay Loay, Carmen. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing to locate the missing passengers.

Married Couple Among the Missing

Two of the missing passengers were newlyweds, Elmer and Rhesamie, who had just tied the knot on Saturday, July 6. The tragic incident occurred just days after their wedding celebration, leaving their loved ones devastated.

Recovered and Rescued

Among those who were rescued were the driver of the vehicle, Ranilo Hermoso, along with Princess Ann Ypil, Debie Hermoso, Ainsley Hermoso, Jojelyn Tungal, Mary Jaica Tungal, May Stephanie Tungal, Queen Ncoole Sencio, Athea Gica, and Jasmine Gica.

Still Missing

The missing individuals have been identified as Mike Stanley Tungal, Aishie Hermoso, Rhesamie Costan, Nathaniel Lozano, Elmer Costan, and Clarrise Ypil. Their families are holding on to hope as the search continues in the hopes of finding them safe and sound.
