Vijayawada: One person was killed, and 15 others suffered injuries in an accident at a cement factory at Bodhavada village under Chillakallu police station limits in NTR district on Sunday. The condition of four of the injured is stated to be critical. The deceased was identified as A Venkateswara Rao.
The police said the accident occurred when workers were on the second floor of the factory belonging to Ultra Tech. An extremely hot material used in cement manufacture fell on them from the third floor due to a leakage in the pipeline that transfers raw material. The leak in the pipeline led to its burst and spread of the hot material on the premises.
Initially, the workers suspected that the accident was the result of the explosion of a boiler. However, further investigation revealed that it was a leakage in the pipeline that caused the tragic incident.
The injured workers were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The local authorities have also initiated an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause and prevent such accidents in the future.
