A tragic incident unfolded in Bandikui, Rajasthan, on Saturday when a 16-year-old student of class 10 tragically passed away due to heart failure. The young boy, identified as Yatendra, had just arrived at school at 7:30 AM that fateful morning when he collapsed in the corridor before he could even make it to his classroom.

School authorities acted swiftly and rushed Yatendra to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be saved and succumbed to his condition during treatment. Circle Inspector Premchand revealed, “Yatendra, the son of Bhupendra Upadhyay and a student at a private school on Panditpura Road, suddenly lost consciousness that morning. Despite the efforts of the school staff and doctors at the Bandikui Government Hospital, he could not be revived. The cause of death was determined to be heart failure.”

Reports suggest that Yatendra had been living with a congenital heart condition since childhood and was undergoing treatment for the same. Inspector Premchand further stated, “The family of the deceased declined to have a post-mortem examination conducted. Based on the medical history and doctor’s assessment, the police have not pursued any legal action in this case.”

Heart failure is a condition that occurs when the heart’s ability to pump blood is compromised, leading to inadequate oxygen and nutrient supply to the body’s tissues. It can be caused by various factors such as coronary artery disease, hypertension, or previous heart attacks. In some cases, congenital heart disease, present from birth, can also contribute to heart failure in children and teenagers.

Congenital heart disease encompasses structural abnormalities in the heart that affect blood flow, such as holes in the heart wall, issues with blood vessels, or problems with heart valves. A ventricular septal defect, a type of hole in the heart wall, allows oxygen-rich blood to flow back into the lungs instead of being circulated to the body, leading to complications.

According to Mayo Clinic, a ventricular septal defect alters the normal blood flow through the heart and lungs, causing a mix of oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood. This condition can elevate blood pressure in the lungs and necessitate the heart to work harder to maintain circulation.

Symptoms of ventricular septal defect can vary depending on the size of the hole and the presence of other heart issues. In children, symptoms may include poor eating, slow physical growth, fast breathing, easy fatigue, and abnormal heart sounds. In adults, symptoms may manifest as shortness of breath, particularly during physical exertion, and abnormal heart sounds.

The untimely demise of Yatendra has left his family and community in mourning, highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention and awareness of congenital heart conditions. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young student during this difficult time.
