Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade held a press conference on Monday at the Jackson Police Department headquarters to address three recent crime incidents in the city of Jackson. The incidents included the kidnapping of a 7-month-old child and two homicides that occurred over the weekend.

Kidnapping of 7-Month-Old Child

On Saturday, July 6, a 7-month-old girl was abducted from a vehicle that was stolen from the 500 block of Beasley Road. The child was left in the running vehicle outside a Shell Gas station on Beasley Road near I-55 north. The suspect abandoned the vehicle in the Fondren neighborhood, where the child was found unharmed.

Chief Wade described the suspect as an older white male or a light-skinned older Black male. The police department is working with the district attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed against the child’s mother.

Chief Wade stated that the police have a person of interest in the case but are seeking information from the community to help solve the crime and bring justice to Luckett’s family.

Robbery and Murder of Security Guard

Three teenagers, identified as Trent Wooten, Zaylon Norton, and Kadaris Cohen, were arrested for the robbery and murder of 60-year-old security guard Roy Love at the M&M Food Mart in the 500 block of Cooper Road. The teenagers stole Love’s weapon and fatally shot him during the altercation.

Surveillance footage captured the attack, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Each teenager has been charged with capital murder and denied bond.

Chief Wade emphasised the severity of the crime, stating, “It was a robbery. They were trying to steal the security guard’s gun, and they succeeded. They took his life in the process. Unbelievable.”
