Two friends perish in tragic Sirajganj boat accident
SIRAJGANJ, July 6, 2024 (BSS) – A fun-filled boat ride turned tragic as two young friends lost their lives in a heartbreaking boat capsize incident that took place in the serene waters of Baral river at Potazia Charmatha area under Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district today.
The two young souls who met an untimely demise were identified as Sajal, aged 16 and son of Shah Alam hailing from Dariapur area of Shahzadpur upazila town, and Tanmoy, aged 18 and son of Touhid from the same locality.

As per the accounts of eyewitnesses and locals, the ill-fated boat, carrying a total of nine passengers including Sajal and Tanmoy, met with disaster when it suddenly capsized in the midst of the river while they were crossing around 12:45 pm, revealed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabuj Rana of Shahjadpur Police Station.
While seven fortunate individuals managed to swim their way to safety, Sajal and Tanmoy tragically succumbed to the merciless waters as they struggled to stay afloat.
Swift action by the locals led to the rescue of the two friends, who were immediately rushed to Potazia Health Complex for medical attention. Despite the best efforts of the medical team on duty, both Sajal and Tanmoy were declared deceased.
The bodies of the young victims were later handed over to their grieving families for the final rites, leaving the entire community in shock and mourning over the tragic turn of events.
Sirajganj, a picturesque district nestled in the heart of Bangladesh, is known for its lush greenery, sprawling rivers, and warm-hearted locals.
