CBC is gearing up to celebrate Canada Day in a big way this year with a lineup of exciting specials that will keep you entertained all day long. From TV to digital platforms, there are plenty of ways to tune in and join in on the festivities.
On TV, CBC News will be broadcasting two specials hosted by Heather Hiscox. The first special, “CBC News Special: Newfoundland and Labrador’s Unknown Soldier,” will air at 7:30 a.m. ET from St. John’s, N.L. This special will honor an unidentified soldier who was killed in the First World War and will be laid to rest at Newfoundland’s National War Memorial. Following that, “CBC News Special: Canada Day 2024!” will kick off at 11:30 a.m. ET, showcasing the celebrations in Ottawa. And in the evening, “Canada Day: Feel the Rhythm” will air at 8 p.m. ET, featuring a live concert from Ottawa with performances by various Canadian artists.
If you prefer to watch online, you can catch both CBC News specials on CBCnews.ca and stream them on CBC Gem, CBC News Explore, and the CBC News YouTube page. The evening concert will also be available for streaming on CBC Gem and CBC News Explore.
For those who prefer to listen, CBC and Massey Hall are teaming up to broadcast a special tribute to the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. “Celebrating Gordon Lightfoot” will air at 12 p.m. ET and again at 4 p.m. ET on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen. The special was recorded live at Massey Hall in Toronto and features performances by Blue Rodeo, The Gordon Lightfoot Band, and many other Canadian artists.
