MWSS to public: Keep saving water despite higher dam levels
A ranking official of the MWSS urges the public to continue conserving water despite the rising level of Angat Dam. The water elevation at the dam is still below its minimum operating level, even though it has increased in recent days. The current water level is 176.11 meters, which is 3.89 meters below the minimum operating level of 180 meters. While the recent rains have helped slow down the decrease in water levels, responsible water usage is still crucial. The official also emphasized the importance of water conservation during the Wattah Wattah Festival in San Juan.

As the water level in Angat Dam continues to rise, a ranking official of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) is urging the public to maintain their water conservation efforts. Despite the recent increase in the dam’s water elevation, the reservoir is still below its minimum operating level, emphasizing the importance of continued water conservation.
In a recent statement to The STAR, MWSS Water and Sewerage Management Department manager Patrick Dizon highlighted the ongoing need for water conservation measures. While the water level of Angat Dam has seen improvement, it remains significantly below its normal high water level of 210 meters and its minimum operating level of 180 meters.
As of Friday morning, the water level of Angat Dam rose for the second consecutive day, reaching 176.11 meters. This marks a slight increase from its previous level of 175.9 meters, but it still falls short of the necessary levels for optimal water supply. Dizon attributed the recent rise in water level to continued rainfall in the watershed areas, which has slowed down the decrease in the reservoir’s water level.
Despite the positive developments at Angat Dam, Dizon emphasized the importance of responsible water usage in Metro Manila. He acknowledged the upcoming Wattah Wattah Festival in San Juan and assured that MWSS does not prohibit traditional celebrations. However, he reiterated the need for the public to use water wisely and conserve this vital resource.
The call for water conservation comes at a time when climate change and water scarcity pose significant challenges to water management in the Philippines. By conserving water and practicing responsible water usage, individuals can contribute to the sustainability of water resources and help ensure a stable water supply for future generations.
In conclusion, while the increase in the water level of Angat Dam is a positive development, it is essential for the public to remain vigilant in their water conservation efforts. By working together to save water and use it responsibly, we can help mitigate the impact of water scarcity and ensure a sustainable water supply for all. Let’s continue to prioritize water conservation and make a difference in preserving this precious resource for the future.
