Man Arrested for Shooting Incident at Lynchburg Apartment Complex

A 44-year-old man is currently facing multiple charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at the James Crossing Apartments in Lynchburg, Virginia. The man, identified as Mitchell Larnell Bennett Jr. of Madison Heights, was apprehended by the Lynchburg Police Department following a late-night altercation that led to shots being fired in the apartment complex’s parking lot.

Incident Details

The incident took place on Wednesday night around 11:45 p.m. when Lynchburg Police received a call about gunfire at the James Crossing Apartments. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a shotgun abandoned on Greenfield Drive and several shell casings from a handgun scattered across the parking lot. Witnesses informed the authorities that they had seen a man dressed in all black fleeing the area.

As officers conducted a search of the premises, they spotted a man matching the suspect’s description attempting to leave the apartment complex in a cab. The police were able to intercept the vehicle before it departed, leading to the arrest of Mitchell Larnell Bennett Jr. During a search of the cab, a shotgun shell was found in the vicinity where Bennett Jr. had been sitting. Additionally, a firearm fell from his possession during the arrest.

Charges and Consequences

Due to his status as a convicted felon, Bennett Jr. is now facing a series of charges related to the shooting incident. These charges include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three counts of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, discharge of a firearm into an occupied building, discharge of a firearm in the city, and two counts of felony property damage. As a result, Bennett Jr. is currently being held at the Lynchburg Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.
