A tragic incident occurred in Saldihi village, Bargarh, where a woman and her two children were crushed to death by an elephant while they were sleeping. The deceased, identified as 33-year-old Pana Bariha, her daughter Sunanda (11), and son Aditya (3), were asleep when the elephant entered their house in search of food. Pana’s husband, Bipin Bariha, narrowly escaped the attack. Three other individuals injured in the incident are receiving treatment at Padampur community health centre. The Divisional forest officer (DFO) of Bargarh has sanctioned a compensation amount of £60,000 for each deceased family member, with a total of £1.80 lakh to be provided to the Bariha family soon.

Pana’s husband, Bipin Bariha, narrowly escaped the wrath of the elephant, but was unable to save his wife and children from the horrific fate that befell them.

The incident occurred late at night, around 11 pm, while the Bariha family was fast asleep in their humble abode. The peaceful slumber of the night was shattered as the wild elephant broke into their house, trampling the unsuspecting victims in their sleep. Compensation and Support

Following the tragic incident, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bargarh, Bikram Dev Pattnaik, took swift action to provide support to the bereaved family. A compensation amount of `60,000 has been sanctioned for each of the deceased, totaling to `1.80 lakh for the Bariha family. Additional compensation will be issued once the postmortem reports are received.
