Minersville Man Released on Bail After Road Rage Incident in Port Carbon

PORT CARBON – A Minersville man, Evian Holliday, was released on bail Tuesday after being jailed on charges for a road rage incident that occurred earlier this month in Port Carbon.

Holliday, 23, of 431 Pleasant Street, is facing two counts each of felony attempted aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

The incident took place on Market Street in Port Carbon when a couple found themselves in a standstill due to someone cutting grass on the roadside at Fourth and Market.

Trying to navigate the situation without blocking the intersection, the couple pulled closer to a Dodge Avenger in front of them. The driver of the Avenger then yelled out the window and began staring at the couple through his side mirror.

As traffic continued, both vehicles left Port Carbon and headed towards Saint Clair, eventually turning at Mill Creek Avenue. The Avenger continued on Mill Creek Avenue as the couple turned onto Industrial Park Road.

Suddenly, the Avenger made a u-turn and began following the couple through Saint Clair back to the Port Carbon police station. It was at this point that Holliday, the driver of the Avenger, rolled down his window and began clapping and yelling at the couple.

The couple drove up to First and Market and parked, only for Holliday to approach them again, this time firing a fully automatic gel ball gun at them, hitting them multiple times in the face.

The couple, fearing for their lives, initially believed the gel ball gun to be a real firearm. They promptly reported the incident at the police station and provided a photo of the Avenger along with its license plate.

Port Carbon Patrolman Nicholas Morgan spotted the car in Port Carbon later that day and followed it as it left town towards Blythe Township. The car was eventually stopped by Blythe Township Police Patrolman Walsh in New Philadelphia, which Blythe serves.

Upon inspection, multiple gel ball guns were found within reach of Holliday, who matched the description provided by the couple. Three gel ball guns and a bottle of gel balls were confiscated, and when questioned about them, Holliday claimed they were for his protection.

Holliday and his girlfriend, who was also in the car, were uncooperative when asked about their whereabouts and activities that day. Holliday, confident in his financial ability, expressed his willingness to pay any citations.

Following his arraignment, Holliday was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $25,000 bail. He was able to post bail on Tuesday through a bondsman from Reading. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 9 in Port Carbon.
