A homeless man is behind bars after causing havoc at a McDonald’s sign in Unity Township. Jason Donald Kaufman, 39, faces multiple charges following the incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 16. Pennsylvania State Police responded to reports of a man yelling at passing vehicles and found Kaufman intoxicated and causing damage to the McDonald’s sign. The Incident in Unity Township
A homeless man found himself in trouble over the weekend after causing chaos in Unity Township. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 16, in the Mountain Laurel Plaza along U.S. Route 30. According to reports, 39-year-old Jason Donald Kaufman was arrested for his actions that night.
Police Intervention
Pennsylvania State Police were called to the area at 2:34 a.m. in response to reports of a white male yelling at passing vehicles. When troopers arrived on the scene, they found Kaufman seated on the curb of Route 30 and Mountain Laurel Plaza, screaming incoherently. Nearby, there was a smashed McDonald’s entrance sign and a pole that had been used to cause the damage.
Intoxication and Resistance
Troopers noted that Kaufman appeared to be heavily intoxicated, with a strong smell of alcohol emanating from him. He was detained and identified through his driver’s license. Despite being transported to the PSP Greensburg barracks for processing, Kaufman resisted being photographed and fingerprinted. A brief struggle ensued before he was finally secured.
Legal Consequences
Following his arrest, Kaufman was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Court Judge Charles D. Moore. He was remanded to Westmoreland County Prison on $25,000 bail.
