The recent death of Jalaluddin Laskar, a resident of Gossaipur in Cachar district during the Haj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia has raised the death toll to 5. The scorching heat and extreme conditions led to his demise, with him suffering a heart attack at Mecca’s Arafa Ground. This unfortunate incident adds to the loss of other pilgrims from Assam, including Maulana Saifuddin, Saleha Begum, Zareena Begum, and Jahir Uddin Majumdar. The Saudi Health Ministry has urged pilgrims to stay hydrated and protected from the heat. The annual Haj pilgrimage is coming to an end today.

It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of Jalaluddin Laskar while on the Haj pilgrimage in the sacred city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Jalaluddin Laskar, a resident of Gossaipur in Cachar district, succumbed to the extreme heat and heatwave conditions prevalent in the region.
Tragically, he suffered a fatal heart attack at Mecca’s Arafa Ground.
This unfortunate incident brings the total number of Haj pilgrims from Assam who have lost their lives in Mecca during the pilgrimage to 5.
Previously, 3 pilgrims from the state lost their lives on June 16, with another pilgrim passing away on June 9.
The other pilgrims who have sadly left us are – Maulana Saifuddin from Cachar, Saleha Begum from Hailakandi, Zareena Begum from Barpeta, and Jahir Uddin Majumdar.
These pilgrims were part of the group of over 3800 individuals from Assam who were sent to Mecca by the Assam Joint State Haj Committee, as confirmed by its chairman, Nekibur Zaman.
Reports indicate that the scorching heat and soaring temperatures in Mecca have claimed the lives of at least 550 pilgrims during this year’s Haj pilgrimage.
The Saudi Health Ministry has issued advisories to pilgrims, urging them to stay hydrated by drinking water and to use umbrellas to shield themselves from the sun and prevent heat-related illnesses as temperatures continue to rise in the region.
The annual Haj pilgrimage, a significant religious journey for Muslims worldwide, is set to conclude today.
