The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday when a deputy spotted three motorcycles on Interstate 85, with one lacking rear lights. The deputy attempted to pull the group over, but two motorcycles accelerated to speeds of 100-130 mph to evade capture. Eventually, one motorcyclist crashed after running a red light in Greensboro, sustaining injuries. The driver, Jaquan McCray, was apprehended and found in possession of a Glock-19 pistol. McCray was treated at Moses Cone Hospital before being discharged and warrants were issued for his arrest.

Manhunt Underway for Suspect in Rowan County to Guilford County Police Chase

Authorities are currently on the lookout for a Greensboro man who led deputies on a high-speed chase that spanned from Rowan County to Guilford County. The dramatic pursuit unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning, starting on Interstate 85 in Rowan County and ending in Greensboro, where the suspect crashed his motorcycle.

The Start of the Chase

The incident began around 2:26 a.m. when a vigilant deputy spotted a group of three motorcycles travelling north on Interstate 85. One of the motorcycles caught the deputy’s attention as it did not have any rear lights on, making it difficult to see in the dark. The deputy decided to intervene and activated his lights to pull over the group.

High-Speed Pursuit

As the deputy attempted to stop the motorcycles near the Peeler Road exit, two of the bikes accelerated to speeds of 100 mph in a bid to evade law enforcement. With the assistance of two other deputies and a N.C. State Highway Patrol Trooper, the pursuit continued as the motorcyclists raced north at speeds ranging from 100 to 130 mph.

Dramatic Turn of Events

At one point, the chase split, with two deputies following the blacked-out motorcycle and the trooper and another deputy pursuing the other bike. The suspect on the blacked-out motorcycle managed to evade the officers by driving off-road and re-entering the interstate before eventually exiting in Greensboro.

Crash and Capture

As the suspect ran a red light in Greensboro, he attempted to negotiate a sharp turn at 70 mph, resulting in a crash. The impact caused the suspect, identified as Jaquan McCray, to be ejected from the motorcycle, breaking his forearm. Deputies quickly apprehended McCray and called for medical assistance. A subsequent search of the area uncovered a 9mm Glock-19 pistol that had fallen into the grass near the crash site.

Aftermath and Search

McCray was taken to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro for treatment, but he was discharged later that day. Deputies then obtained warrants for his arrest and enlisted the help of the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office to track him down. Meanwhile, the other motorcyclist involved in the chase also crashed but managed to flee on foot, eluding capture.
