Frost fled from the traffic stop, eventually crashing into another vehicle and the front of the Iron Horse Saloon. The pursuit continued east of Sturgis, with Frost evading authorities before being apprehended at Exit 48. Despite the dramatic events, there were no reported injuries. Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase Near Sturgis, South Dakota
A Rapid City man found himself in hot water this morning after leading authorities on a high-speed chase on I-90 near Sturgis, South Dakota. The dramatic incident unfolded on the busy interstate, causing quite a stir among local residents and passersby.
Chase Begins on I-90
According to Meade County Sheriff Pat West, the chase commenced on I-90 at mile marker 52, where a deputy attempted to pull over a black Chevy Suburban following a traffic complaint. The suspect, later identified as Steven Frost of Rapid City, decided to flee from the traffic stop in the westbound lane, setting off a chain of events that would grip the entire area.
Crash and Confrontation
As the chase unfolded, Frost veered off the Interstate and collided with another vehicle at Exit 32 before continuing along Junction Avenue and crashing into the front of the iconic Iron Horse Saloon. The pursuit then took a dangerous turn east of Sturgis, with the suspect careening onto Fort Meade Way, smashing through a Pleasant Valley fence, and re-entering I-90 eastbound at Exit 37.
Final Standoff
The dramatic chase finally came to a halt at Exit 48, where law enforcement deployed spike strips to stop Frost’s vehicle. As the car began to catch fire, the suspect exited and attempted to flee on foot. However, authorities quickly apprehended Frost, bringing an end to the adrenaline-fueled pursuit. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Sheriff West confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation, with authorities working to piece together the events that transpired during the high-speed chase. As the community comes to terms with the shocking incident, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
