Tragic Accident in Tucson Claims Life of Pedestrian

A devastating incident occurred in midtown Tucson, resulting in the loss of a man’s life. The Tucson Police Department reported that a pedestrian, identified as 55-year-old Rafael Lazcano, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of east Fort Lowell Road and north Alvernon Way.

According to TPD, the collision took place around 11:00 p.m. on June 12, involving a blue 2017 Nissan Rogue and Lazcano. He was rushed to Banner University Medical Center with critical injuries and sadly succumbed to his wounds on June 18.

Details of the Incident

Investigations revealed that Lazcano and another pedestrian were using a marked crosswalk to cross east Fort Lowell Road from north to south. However, they were walking against the traffic signal at the time of the accident. The driver of the Nissan Rogue was travelling east on Fort Lowell Road when the collision occurred.

Witnesses stated that the traffic signal for both eastbound and westbound traffic on Fort Lowell Road was green when the tragic incident unfolded. The second pedestrian involved in the crossing had left the scene before the authorities arrived.

Police Investigation and Findings

An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit assessed the adult female driver of the Nissan Rogue after the collision. The evaluation concluded that she was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.

As of now, the case is still under investigation, and no citations or charges have been issued in connection with the incident. The Tucson Police Department is working diligently to gather all the necessary information to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
