Vishnu, a young man from Thrissur’s Irinjalakuda, was allegedly held captive for ransom in Armenia but was released on Tuesday. The son of Chembil Mukundan and Geetha from Peruvallippadam, Irinjalakuda, Vishnu was detained by a building owner in Armenia over a financial dispute. Geetha Mukundan, Vishnu’s mother, lodged a complaint with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and NORKA office, stating her son’s life was in danger. After an investigation by the Indian Embassy and NORKA, Vishnu was allowed to leave. Vishnu, along with other Malayalis, had been deceived and abandoned at a hostel in Yerevan, leading to his captivity and ransom demands.

Young Man from Thrissur Released After Being Held Captive in Armenia
A young man named Vishnu from Thrissur’s Irinjalakuda, Kerala, was recently released after being held captive in Armenia. The son of Chembil Mukundan and Geetha from Peruvallippadam, Irinjalakuda, Vishnu’s ordeal began when he was detained by the owner of a building in Armenia over a financial dispute.
Family’s Desperate Plea for Help
Geetha Mukundan, Vishnu’s mother, reached out to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the NORKA office, and Social Justice Minister R Bindu, expressing her fears for her son’s safety. The family was terrified for Vishnu’s life as the building owner in Armenia had threatened to kill him if the ransom was not paid.
Investigation by Indian Embassy and NORKA
With the intervention of the Indian Embassy and NORKA, Vishnu was eventually allowed to leave Armenia. KV Abdul Khader, the chairman of the Pravasi Welfare Board, spoke with Vishnu and confirmed that he was safe in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Vishnu was staying with friends and was hopeful of resolving the matter soon.
A Tragic Turn of Events
Vishnu had travelled to Armenia with the help of a person named Sharuq from Irinjalakuda. He had been working at a hostel in Yerevan along with other Malayalis. Unfortunately, Vishnu was deceived into signing a consent form that transferred the management rights of the hostel to another individual named Muhammad. This led to a series of events that culminated in Vishnu being held captive by the building owner.

Desperate Ransom Demands
The captors initially demanded a ransom of Rs 1,20,000 per day from Vishnu’s family. Despite the family sending Rs 1,50,000 from India, the captors are now demanding an additional Rs 3 lakh to release Vishnu. Geetha Mukundan’s complaint highlighted the harrowing experiences her son faced while being held captive in Armenia.
