The Initial Call and Response

It all started when a woman named Rebecca Ann Themelis called 911 to report that her husband, Christos Byron Themelis, had been shot. Little did she know that this call would escalate into a tragic series of events. As deputies arrived on the scene, they encountered a chaotic situation with the suspect, 19-year-old Christos Alexander Themelis, Jr., and his mother, Rebecca, outside the home.

The Heart-Wrenching Encounter

Deputy Shane McGough, a brave officer with two years of service, found himself in the line of fire as he tried to protect Rebecca from her son’s violent outburst. Despite his efforts, Christos Jr. shot his mother and then turned his gun towards the deputies, leading to a harrowing exchange of gunfire.

In the midst of the chaos, five deputies – Deputy Shane McGough, Deputy Brandon Schade, Deputy Richard Ziegler, Deputy Bjar Atkins, and Deputy Ciara Moncada – displayed immense courage as they engaged with the armed suspect.
