The Unsolved Murder of Paige Stalker

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. — The murder of a Grosse Pointe Farms teen still remains unsolved after nearly ten years.

16-year-old Paige Stalker was shot and killed when a gunman opened fire on a car that she and three others were sitting in on the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Park border. The motive of the shooting still remains unclear, and no arrests or charges have been announced.

A Tragic Night

The Stalker family has been living without answers for nearly a decade since Paige’s tragic death on December 22, 2014. Avery Stalker, Paige’s sister, recalls the night vividly.

“All of these family friends were there, and my Dad was there,” Avery said. “It was just very unusual. My Mom and my sister, Madison, told me what happened and after that everything just became a blur.”

RELATED STORIES

Earlier that night, Paige had been picked up by some friends and they had parked at the corner of Charlevoix and Philip, on the Detroit/Grosse Pointe Park border to smoke marijuana. Suddenly, another vehicle pulled up and opened fire with an AK-47.

A Case of Mistaken Identity

Retired Detroit Police Deputy Chief Steve Dolunt explained that the shooting was a case of mistaken identity. The gunman had been seeking revenge on someone who had threatened him, and mistakenly targeted Paige and her friends.

There were a total of 30 shell casings at the scene, and Paige was tragically shot in the head and chest, succumbing to her injuries. The others in the car were wounded but survived the attack.

No Closure for the Family

Dolunt revealed that detectives had identified a suspect in the case, who was incarcerated in Ohio for a federal carjacking case. However, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office denied the warrant request due to insufficient evidence to support criminal charges.

The Prosecutor’s Office stated, “We need evidence that we can prove in court beyond a reasonable doubt. We have not had that here.” This decision has left the Stalker family feeling helpless and seeking closure.

Seeking Justice

Avery Stalker and Steve Dolunt both want the man responsible for Paige’s murder to be charged. Dolunt emphasized the importance of closure for the victims’ families, especially in light of Paige’s father passing away without ever seeing justice served.

Avery expressed her desire for justice, stating, “Knowing that he is charged or whoever is responsible is charged will bring more help in easing my mind at night.”

The Stalker family continues to hold out hope for justice and closure in Paige’s case, as they seek answers and resolution after nearly a decade of uncertainty.
